This is probably the prettiest street I have ever seen. [Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

Deep in the rainforests of the Indian state of Meghalaya, bridges are not built, they’re grown. For more than 500 years locals have guided roots and vines from the native Ficus Elastica (rubber tree) across rivers, using hollowed out trees to create root guidance systems. When the roots and vines reach the opposite bank they are allowed to take root. Some of the bridges are over 100 feet long and can support the weight of 50 people.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Storm
Absolutely stunning footage underscored by some great editing. Set aside 20 minutes, throw on a pair of headphones and full-screen this gem.

Monday Night

"So listen.
...
and it stops.

Everything has stopped.

And silence drops down from out of the night, into this city, the briefest of silences, like a falter between heartbeats, like a darkness between blinks. Secretly, there is always this moment, an unexpected pause, a hesitation as one day is left behind and a new one begins. A catch of breath as gasometer lungs begin slow exhalations. A ring of tinnitus as thermostats interrupt air-conditioning fans.
There moments are there, always, but they are rarely noticed and they rarely last longer than a flicker of thought.

We are in that moment now, there is silence and the whole city still."

Earth Hour

Just a hour, from 8:30 - 9:30, turn off your lights,
shut down everything....Let the earth breathe.

In Bali, I discovered the annual Day of Silence, a Hindu New Year observance during which the entire island shuts down and people are banned from the streets for 24 hours, yes, not a hour, 24 HOURS. The one of the most important religious events for Balinese, called Nyepi. At that day, land and sea transportation to and from Bali would be halted for 24 hours, no work, no TV or radios or cell, no cooking, no lights, and no any activities...You'll start to see the most beautiful nature of things that has been always around you, and you have been ignored. Show you care, show your love, just a hour. Thank you!
